Create a unique keepsake book/journal with eco-dyed leaves and handmade metal binding. Learn natural leaf tannin techniques and learn various techniques with torches, metal hole punch, and a double coptic stitching to bind your work. All materials are included however, participants will need to bring: self-healing mat, ruler, pencil, scissors, and latex gloves.

You are invited to explore the world of engraving with renowned French-Colombian artist Pablo Posada Pernikoff, the current artist-in-residence at AnandaRasa located at Catawba Farms in Newton, NC. Join us as Pablo introduces the art of engraving, explains the engraving process, and demonstrates the use of the Museum’s engraving press. During his residency, Pablo will be creating engravings and other art pieces inspired by the unique culture and landscape of Catawba County.

He will also lead several “Plein Air for Children” workshops at Catawba Farms, sharing his passion for art with the next generation.

Pablo’s internationally acclaimed work will be featured at the Global Palate Local Pour fundraising event on October 27, 2024, where guests can experience his vibrant and unique artistic vision firsthand.

FREE Admission

The Chroma Collective combines music and art in a way that is engaging and fun for our audiences. They promote historically marginalized composers in our performances, and design their program so that audience members find the artist within themselves.

In collaboration with Lenoir-Rhyne University, we proudly present the Chroma Collective live in concert in the Coe Gallery of Hickory Museum of Art. Artist Michael C. Thorpe will be attendance as well, creating with the community. Chroma Collective will present an hour-long interactive concert, and audience members will have the opportunity to respond in real time to the music, tapping into their artist within. All ages are welcome to attend this free event.

This project was partially funded by a grant from Arts Culture Catawba.

Spend the day making your one-of-a-kind treasure.

Become one with the art of nature! The only requirement: CURIOSITY! Participants will make and learn basic bookbinding tools and materials by creating their own leather Field Notebook. We’ll use Fabrino Artistico 140lbs cold press binding paper and Irish waxed linen book binding thread. Drawing or painting skills are not required to set up your own journal/nature journal. You will learn a long stitch book-binding process.

Tracy Sherrill is a local artist who returned to Hickory after several years of roaming Beech Mountain and the Pisgah Forest. Successfully participating in the WNC juried art shows, she is an avid observer, birder, hiker, artist, and journal writer.

While all materials are provided, participants are strongly encouraged to bring the following as minimal tools are available:

• Pencil

• Fine Point black Sharpie

• Box Cutters

• Bone folder or drinking glass with smooth surface

• Ruler (metal one is best)

• Leather Punch (2 available to share)

• Scissors

• Self-healing mat

Feel free to bring a lunch! Or there will be a small break to run out to grab something.
