The Wyeths: An American Vision

  • Hickory Art Museum 243 3rd Ave NE Hickory United States (map)

Newell Convers “N.C.” Wyeth (October 22, 1882 – October 19, 1945), Maine Seascape

For three generations members of the Wyeth family created works of art that captured the imagination and admiration of the American public.

  • N.C. Wyeth was “the great illustrator”

  • Andrew Wyeth “the painter of old barns”

  • James Wyeth painted attractive animals and bucolic settings. But they were so much more and created so much more variety.

In this presentation, we will take a closer look at the lives and works of these three artists and some other family members who contributed significantly to American Art that defines the American spirit. Join Carl Shatley, Historian, artist, and presenter as we look closer into the lives and art of the Wyeths and see them in a new light.

Carl Shatley is an accomplished educator, lecturer, and artist who holds a Master of Arts degree in History from Duke University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from Greensboro College.
