L.A.T.E. Night Thursday | Juneteenth: An Opening Night

  • Hickory Art Museum 243 3rd Ave NE Hickory United States (map)

Admission is Free

This year, HMA is proud to host the opening night for Juneteenth across Catawba County!  Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth”) marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to proclaim that all enslaved people were free. HMA in partnership with the Juneteenth Collaborative will commemorate this important time with a vibrant event that invites the entire community to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of art and culture housed within our museum walls.

As you step into the museum, you'll be greeted by the soul-stirring rhythms of live music, setting the tone for an evening filled with jubilation and reflection. Explore our extensive collection of art, spanning various mediums and showcasing some of the diverse stories and experiences of black artists from our collection.

No celebration is complete without music, and we've curated musician, Lochlann Kilburn to serenade you throughout the event.

And of course, what's a celebration without food and drinks? An assortment of beverages, wine and beer will be served.

Whether you're a seasoned art enthusiast or a newcomer to the museum scene, this Juneteenth event is a welcoming space for all to come together, honor our shared history, and celebrate the strides we've made towards freedom and equality. So mark your calendars, bring your friends and family, and join us for an evening of art, music, food, and community as we commemorate Juneteenth in style.
