Wolf Kahn a German-born American painter (1927-2020) once said:

“It is very hard to be a landscape painter and surprise people”

Kahn known for his realism and color field painting worked in pastel, oil paint and printmaking and managed through the evolution of his work to surprise everyone with his unique, creative solutions to landscape painting and forge a legacy of work that is easily recognizable as his.

His personal vision of nature and man-made structures has been described as combining “pictorial landscapes and painterly abstraction”. This presentation will examine Kahn’s artistic journey and evolution as a contemporary painter and modern American representational artist.

Presenter Carl Shatley is an accomplished educator, lecturer and artist who holds a Master of Arts degree in History from Duke University and Bachelor of Arts degree in Art from Greensboro College.
