HMA offers curriculum-related tours, hands-on art projects, and classroom resources to school groups of all ages. HMA offers your students interactive, engaging tours that test their observation skills, critical thinking, and expression of ideas.

Foundations

The Foundations exhibit celebrates the museum’s permanent collection starting from 1944 to the present. The story will start with traditional artworks that will move into how different cultures have cultivated and grown in the Hickory Museum of Art’s 80 years of existence. The exhibition features works from HMA’s foundational artists, artists who helped make the museum a reality -- Paul Austin Wayne Whitener, Wilford Seymour Conrow, and Frederick Ballard Williams. HMA not only has large holdings of paintings by each artist, but sketchbooks as well.

Our vision at Hickory Museum of Art is to become a catalyst for a future where creative exploration, inclusivity, and community create the foundation for a more perfect world. As educators and optimists, we aim to inspire everyone to make the world a better place for everyone.
Hickory Museum of Art lends cultural kits FREE of charge to libraries across the Unifour region (Catawba, Caldwell, Burke, and Alexander Counties). Our kits contain original pieces of art along with accompanying support materials for discussion and display. These are great for multicultural festivals. Available kits include:
Latin American Culture Kit | Books, posters, maracas, artwork, Aztec calendar stones, artifacts, textiles, and more.
Folk Art Kit | Original artwork, lesson plans, children's books, introduction to HMA's folk art (DVD), and artist biographies.
Hmong Kit | Books, story-cloths, clothing, posters, DVD, lesson plans, and additional items about Hmong cultures.
Native American Kit | Hopi Kachina doll, mandella, art print, Navajo wool blanket, books, lesson plans, Cherokee basket, arrowheads, stone pipes, and ceramic canteen.
