Winter Break | K-4th Grade

Monday, January 21
10 AM-12:30 PM
$24 Members | $35 Non-Members

Enjoy the day off school and create winter themed art. Snowmen, snow animals, snowflakes and hot chocolate. Bring a bag lunch to enjoy at the end of class.


Rip, Paint, Draw | K-2nd Grade

Tuesdays on January 29, February 5, & 12
4-5 PM
$24 Members | $35 Non-Members

This class will be all about landscapes. After being inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Grandfather Mountain and the Grand Canyon in the galleries, we will paint, collage and draw a variety of landscapes.



Monday, February 4
4-5 PM
$15 Members | $24 Non-Members

Just in time for Valentines, students will learn how to create a string art heart. Students will hammer nails in a heart shape then wrap string around for a perfect Valentine gift or display.



Mondays on February 18, 25 & March 4
4-5 PM
$24 Members | $35 Non-Members

Use inspiration from the Exquisite Miniatures exhibition in the Shuford gallery to create art on a small scale. We’ll check out the miniature exhibit in the gallery and create art that is small. Paint a small canvas painting, tiny fridge magnets, animals from sculpey clay and other mini art.

Paint skies and flowers like Vincent Van Gogh! Celebrate Vincent Van Gogh’s birthday by learning to paint in his style. We will paint skies and flowers like Vincent.


Pint size picassos | Ages 3-5

2nd & 3rd  Wednesdays (Monthly from October - May) | 1- 2 PM
$15 HMA Members/Month  | $20 Non-Members/Month

A class for early budding artist and their accompanying adult. Paint, glue, and glitter are just a few of the materials kids will experience along with visits into the Museum. Each month focuses on different projects so sign up for the year or just a month. Price includes accompanying adult and both weeks with-in the month.

Stretch N’Create | Ages 3-6

3rd & 4th Tuesdays (Monthly from October - May) | 1-2 PM

Hickory Museum of Art will partner with Hillary May from Stretch-n-Grow to offer children the chance to participate in the fitness program Stretch-n-Grow. Students will begin right in the Hickory Museum of Art’s galleries for some fitness fun and then go to the Hickory Museum of Art’s classroom for some art making fun. Parents can view art while their kids burn off some energy. Fitness and art projects for will be themed monthly. A variety of materials will be used for the semi-monthly art projects.

Second Thursday of Each Month  
1 - 2:15 PM
(a morning class will be added if enrollment allows)
Ages 5+ (must be 5 by 10/1/2018)
Students will be led through the galleries while examining works of art on their level. From gallery inspiration, students will then create artwork of their own. Different media will be used each month for experimentation.

Monthly Classes: $8 Members | $12 per Non-Members
Register for the Year & Save! Members save 10% and pay $64.80 | Non-members save 5% and pay $102.60.

*Pre-registration and payment required. Single month registrations are required by Monday of the class week. Refunds will not be paid for any missed classes.

**Please note that Catawba Science Center membership is separate from HMA, and does not cover HMA classes.



Thanks to the LB Lane Family Foundation and Kulynych Family Foundation, HMA has scholarships available for adults and children who normally can't afford to take classes. One student recipient stated, "The reason I want to attend the Facial Facades camp is because it would help me to achieve my future dream of becoming a beautician. I will get the start I need to begin my path into the world of beauty. One day, I may be able to help people who cannot afford expensive makeovers. I also hope this would be the beginning of some new friendships."
