You might not have imagined that black and white cartoons could inspire amazing floral designs, but the display in the Coe Gallery at the end of April showed otherwise. A selection of the cartoons and other Matthew Diffee works were wonderfully reflected in the creations of the floral designers from the North Carolina State Florists Association and from four of HMA's members.
For the remainder of the Diffee exhibit, we have now put up photographic labels next to the works that inspired the floral arrangements, so that people who may have missed the actual flowers may at least get a glimpse of what they missed. You'll have to come to HMA before July 9 though (the last day will be Sunday July 8th), or you will miss the labels too.
This was our second annual bloomHMA weekend of floral creativity, events and classes, the first having been inspired by works by women artists in HMA's permanent collection last year. We will surely do it again in Spring 2019, so watch for it.
