Hickory Museum of Art Guild Presents the Angels of the Arts “Tea Around the World” Fundraiser Event for HMA.
Tea Around the World will be the spring event hosted by the Hickory Museum of Art Guild on Monday, March 26, 3-5 pm. This global look at tea and the culture that surrounds it will highlight twelve countries that have a strong association with both drinking and cultivating tea. Tastings of teas from these nations will be available while you enjoy a variety of tea-time foods such as scones, open face sandwiches, and sweets. The HMA Guild will also offer door prizes and items for silent auction.
When making your reservations for this fundraiser, you will be asked to select the table that represents a country of your choice, including Thailand, South Africa, or Morocco. Each of the twelve tables will be designed by an HMA Guild hostess who will choose decor to reflect the country and its tea culture.
Local students from both Hickory Career and Arts Magnet High School (HCAM) and Catawba Valley Community College (CVCC) are involved in the event.
Students from HCAM’s culinary program will be preparing and serving food under the direction of Marilyn Johnson, Family and Consumer Sciences Instructor. A student from the school’s photography program will also be involved in the tea. HCAM is a career-acceleration high school with technical and arts centered academies. It is designed for students looking for a non-traditional high school experience.
Three students from CVCC’s Fine Arts Advertising and Graphic Design Program have worked as a team to design the art and graphics for use on the HMA web site, invitations, and event posters. Promotion of the tea is a project for their Advanced Design Practice class at the college.
Tea Around the World is sponsored in part by The Spice and Tea Exchange of Blowing Rock and The Charleston Tea Plantation. The retail spice and tea shop is located on Blowing Rock’s Main Street. North America’s only tea plantation, The Charleston Tea Plantation invites visitors to their location just south of Charleston, SC on Wadmalaw Island in the heart of the Lowcountry of South Carolina .
The cost for this event is $25 per person. Your reservation includes the Irish tea served at your table, the delectable tea-time treats, and three tea tastings. Additional tea tasting may be purchased both online or at the event for $1.00 per tasting or $5.00 for all 12 teas.
