A bit of clouds didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm at the Third Annual Foothills Folk Art Festival in Downtown Newton on Saturday, October 6, 2018. This family friendly day-long festival drew thousands of visitors from throughout the region as had been expected; and it more than lived up to its statewide award the previous year from the N.C. Department of Commerce for Best Downtown Special Event.
Along with the over 90 artists and the staff from Newton and HMA, volunteers in yellow T-shirts helped with festival set-up and take-down, and acted as guides throughout the day including providing transportation to convenient parking. And most people couldn’t resist bringing home a new art treasure.
For the third year, the festival was a collaboration between Hickory Museum of Art and the Downtown Newton Development Association. The festival's principal organizers again were Shannon Johnson, Newton’s Main Street Program coordinator, and Clarissa Starnes, Associate Director of Hickory Museum of Art and the Foothills Folk Art Festival artist contact.
