According to its Collections Management Policy, "The Hickory Museum of Art collects works of art of quality and significance which are relevant to its mission. The Museum acquires works of art by means of gift, purchase, and/or exchange." Every month, the HMA Acquisitions Committee meets to evaluate possibilities: Should we accept this gift offer? Should we consider buying that possibility? The committee consists of several community volunteers who are knowledgeable about art and its care, as well as relevant HMA staff. We say yes more often than not, but never without thorough consideration.
This is a selection of what we have acquired in the last few months.
Starting at the top: Rev. Johnnie Simmons Blue and Red Truck; Harold Crowell Untitled; Michael Cunningham Crowns; Frank Stanley Herring Black Woman, Midgeville GA; Philip Moose Painting of Home in Newton; Marie Elem Georgia Cotton Patch; Brooks Yeomans The Last Supper, Downtown Morganton.
