Calling All European Cars

Hickory Museum of Art is seeking European classic cars for the third annual Autolawn Party, set for Sept. 12 on The SALT Block lawn, 243 Third Avenue N.E., Hickory. The Autolawn Party is a celebration of the road’s number one traveler – the automobile. The intention is to provide a wide range of high-quality, original vehicles in an intimate, yet informal setting, without the pressure of traditional Concours events. This year’s event highlights the Volkswagen brand.

Entry classifications include: German, Italian, British, other European makes and European motorcycles. Registration forms and additional information are available on the event’s website at www.theautolawn.com.

All registrants will be guaranteed lawn parking for their vehicles, but space is limited. Early registrant fees are $35 for the first car, and $25 for each additional car. Benefits for early registration include: one complimentary event hat for the first entry, early check-in and reduced set-up times. Registration fees received after August 17 are $35 for the first car, and $30 for additional cars, based on space availability.

New for this year, entrants will be judged by their peers. Prizes will be awarded for first place and runner-up in each class. Additional awards will be given for Spectator’s Choice, Longest Distance Traveled, Best of Featured Brand (Volkswagen), and Best in Show (Overall).

The car show will be held 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sept. 12, and is presented by Porsche of Hickory and Paramount Classic Cars and Trucks. The event is open to the public, and there is no charge for spectators.

This year’s event features a youth judging program, new vehicle test drives courtesy of Paramount Motors, beer garden, music, event memorabilia for sale, and raffle prizes. Attendees can also vote for their favorite classic car. In honor of The Autolawn Party, Youssef 242 is donating a portion of sales on Sept. 12 to the Hickory Museum of Art. Make a reservation at 828-324-2005.

While on The SALT Block, car show spectators are invited to visit Hickory Museum of Art’s new exhibit – Unexpected Beauty: Views from the Lens of Steve McCurry, which opens Sept. 12. This exciting exhibit features the works of universally recognized photojournalist Steve McCurry, whose stunning, colorful images tell the beautiful and tragic stories of cultures and conflicts around the world. Admission to the museum is free.
