Hickory Museum of Art Guild (HMAG), together with Catawba Valley Community College’s (CVCC) second-year graphic art students, joined forces to create this year’s image for the Guild’s Angels of the Arts Brunch and Auction (AOA) to be held 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5 at Lake Hickory Country Club.
CVCC Advertising and Graphic Design Instructor Jennifer Cobb and her second-year students recently met with the HMAG Executive Committee to present their design concepts for the upcoming event. Eight students participated, and Dua Xiong’s elegant angel image was chosen as the 2015 image of the AOA Brunch and Auction.
Xiong’s love of art in all forms, together with CVCC’s well-developed graphic art program, prompted her to enroll in classes. She wanted to create a visually strong piece with lots of artistic value and movement in it, similar to a beautiful watercolor. Her greatest design challenge was the depiction of her angel’s face. Starting with a hand-drawn image, she was then able to graphically manipulate the profile to her satisfaction.
Dua Xiong is the daughter of Chongger and Ka Xiong of Hickory. She will receive her Associate in Applied Science degree from CVCC in Spring 2016. Her future includes completing a degree in marketing as a complement to her graphic art degree.
Don’t miss this year’s Angels of the Arts Brunch and Auction on Dec. 5. The popular holiday event features a silent auction, live auction and brunch. All proceeds benefit the Museum.
New this year, the Guild is also selling Golden Tickets (raffle) for a chance to win a 3 night/4 day vacation for two people to your choice of destination including Disney World, Las Vegas or Napa Valley. All trips are valued at $6,000 and include airfare. Tickets are now available online at www.HickoryArt.org. Reservations can also be made by calling 828-327-8576.
