Gallery Talk by Steve Price | Restoring Westglow: Preserving Elliott Daingerfield’s Grandest Vision
In celebration of Hickory Museum of Art’s blockbuster “A Grand Vision: Elliott Daingerfield Paints Grandfather Mountain and the Grand Canyon,” this exclusive program will bring Steve Price (President of Westglow Spa and Resort) to the Coe Gallery. Steve served as the principal Architect for the restoration and renovation of the artist’s spectacular mansion in Blowing Rock. Daingerfield began work on his final residence in 1914 and the design referenced his childhood home in Harper’s Ferry, as well as inspiration derived from his love of Greek revival aesthetics.
Steve’s presentation will present a unique and fascinating perspective of the steps taken to bring the iconic residence back to the artist’s original vision.
Steve joined Westglow in 2006 as General Manager after serving as the principal architect for the restoration and renovation of the resort. Prior to joining Westglow, Steve had a successful career as an architect in Charlotte and Greensboro. Steve oversees the daily operations of Westglow and coordinates all of the facilities related projects on the property. A North Carolina native, Steve studied Accounting at Guilford College before pursuing undergraduate and professional degrees in Architecture at the University of North Carolina. Steve serves on the Board of the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce and An Appalachian Summer Festival. Steve designed Westglow’s residential development, Westglow Village, and currently resides there.
